Azara microphylla
Published: March 2008
This small Chilean tree justifies its place in the garden all the year round, with striking tiered branches covered in tiny evergreen leaves, as winter ends, it begins to waft clouds of vanilla scent from tiny yellow flowers which cover the undersides of the branches. This is one of the most satisfying aromas in the world, and is guaranteed to make you hungry. It is located in the Walled Garden which opens Tuesday 18th March, but can also be seen in Gondwanaland.
