Mothers' Day Weekend at Marks Hall

Published: March 2009

We are launching our 2009 events programme over Mothers’ Day weekend on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March.

Our new Food Market on Saturday 21st will be welcoming back all the favourite stallholders from Farmers’ Markets in previous years and adding new ideas too.

Local chef, Mark Baumann, from Coggeshall will be at the market cooking and sharing ideas for delicious seasonal dishes. He will be using produce that everyone can buy from various stallholders so that we can all try out his recipes at home. The demonstrations will take place several times during the day.

Entrance is £2 per car and this will be deducted from the admission fee to the Gardens and Arboretum for people who include a walk in their day out.

Another ‘celebrity’ takes over on Sunday 22nd when the guest for the day is television gardener, Christine Walkden, whom many of us first got to know through Radio Essex.

The event on Sunday is Marks Hall’s Plants and Gardens Day, still with a range of stallholders offering all kinds of gifts and treats for Mother. Outdoors there will be plant stalls with everything from specialist perennials to seasonal potted bulbs and plants. The marquee will be home to a group of stallholders with some really original gift ideas: these will include Creative Flowers from Ella Monk (a Marks Hall favourite at Christmas time), some new ideas in silk, special soaps, lavender in everything from perfume to marmalade, and, of course, chocolate too!

Christine Walkden will be doing a Seed Sowing demonstration and later in the day leading a question and answer session. Walks around the gardens at Marks Hall will be led by a Marks Hall volunteer who has seen the development of the gardens over the last fifteen years.

Admission is £10 per car and that will include all the activities and events for the whole day. There are concessions for Marks Hall members and RHS members.
