Jerry Harpur photographs gardens and plants all over the world. He has contributed pictures to more than 300 books and won awards on both sides of the Atlantic, including the Garden Writers' Guild Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. Spring will see the publication of his latest book, Dream Gardens of England, photographed in collaboration with his son Marcus and with the words of Barbara Baker.

This is a chance to hear Jerry talk about some of the best gardens he has seen and photographed over the past 30 years, including Marks Hall Garden and Arboretum in Essex. Jerry describes this inspired landscape as ‘one of the most beautifully designed gardens in England’, and has returned to photograph it throughout the seasons.

Jerry will also discuss and contrast some of his favourite international gardens, including the Rashtrapati Bhavan garden in New Delhi, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, and innovative work by contemporary landscape architects Vladimir Sitta (Australia) and Steve Martino (Arizona).

He will look at how to take the best possible garden photographs, discussing topics such as time of day and coping with difficult conditions such as rain;, and also compare the results of film and digital photography

The event will cost £28.00 for Marks Hall & RHS Members or £32.00 for non members and includes a two course home-cooked lunch  It will start at 11.00am at the Visitor Centre and finish at 2.30pm.  To book please contact either Julia or Louise on 01376 563796 or email bookings@markshall.org.uk
