Betula alleghaniensis

Published: October 2006
Originating in North-eastern America, Betula alleghaniensis is also known as the yellow birch due to its yellowish-bronze exfoliating bark. The inner bark is aromatic and has a flavour of wintergreen. It blooms in late to mid April, but is at its most breathtaking in the Autumn when the leaves turn golden yellow. The yellow birch is situated in the North American section of the Arboretum, behind the Walled Garden.
