Cornus kousa and Cornus kousa Satomi

Cornus kousa Satomi

Published: June 2006

Cornus kousa is commonly known as the flowering dogwood and originates in Japan, Korea and China.  It is used extensively for ornamental effect with the tiny green flowers appearing in early Summer, surrounded by large white flower bracts.  Autumn produces an equally spectacular display of colour with the leaves turning a crimson-purple.

Cornus kousa Satomi originates from the same genus as Cornus kousa and produces equally stunning blooms of pink bracts in the Summer with the leaves turning a crimson colour in Autumn.  The tree was named after famed nurseryman Akira Shibamichi granddaughter.

Both can be seen at Marks Hall in the Korean Glade.
