Corylus colurna (Turkish hazel)

Corylus colurna (Turkish hazel) is a tree native to southeast Europe and southwest Asia, it is the largest species of hazel, potentially reaching up to 35m tall. The flowers are produced in very early spring, the single-sex male catkins are a pale yellow, while the female is very small and largely concealed in the buds, with only the bright red styles visible. The Turkish Hazel can be found near the Mansion Site, in the European section of the Arboretum.
