Foxgloves

Published: June 2006
Are perhaps the handsomest of our indigenous plants and are widely distributed throughout Europe. They are a common occurrence throughout the English Countryside, appearing freely in woods and lanes. The common name has nothing to do with foxes, but is a corruption of the phrase 'folks' gloves', as it was thought that fairy folk were said to use the flowers as gloves. The outstanding display can be seen throughout the Millennium Walk at Marks Hall.
