Magnolia grandiflora

Published: August 2011
Magnolia grandiflora is a lovely late flowering magnolia from North America. It was introduced in the 1720's and is one of the most widely planted evergreen trees in the world. It grows well in almost any soil and produces huge creamy white flowers in the late summer and autumn. The petals are thick and the flowers have a spicy, fruity scent. At Marks Hall we have a nice specimen in the Walled Garden and several open grown trees on the Memorial site.
