Since the bat population at Marks Hall was first surveyed in 1993, there has been an organised programme to support it. The air raid shelters that pepper the area were converted to house hibernating bats, and the complex is now of national importance for bat conservation. Current figures indicate that it is now the largest hibernacula in Britain for Brown Long Eared bats. Natterer’s bats are present in good numbers and the rare Barbastelle bat has been recorded here.

Join bat expert Simon Leatherdale, for a guided walk around Marks Hall Estate highlighting the different species of bats we have present here. Simon has been involved with the bat programme at Marks Hall since his initial survey back in 1993.

Booking essential and places are limited to 20. This walk is not suitable for children under 7 years, children aged 16 years and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please bring a torch and sturdy footwear as we will be walking long distances in the dark.
