Marks Hall has a rich woodland history and our firewood is harvested from these woodlands. Most of the woodland here is ancient coppice. Coppicing is a way of harvesting wood that stimulates new growth. The tree is felled near to ground level, which provides timber that is then cut to size, carefully seasoned and sold as firewood. The tree responds by sprouting from the stump. These young shoots will gradually grow into new poles. This not only provides a sustainable supply of wood, it is believed to prolong the life of the tree. Heating using wood from our woodlands is beneficial because: It reduces reliance on fossil fuels. Is almost carbon neutral. Coppiced woodlands provide a completely renewable form of energy. You are providing funds for woodland management. You are helping increase the active management of our coppiced woodlands. This helps us to: Improve the wildlife habitat of many plants and animals, including Dormice and Nightingales. Protect our ancient woodlands. Enhance the beauty of the landscape. Our loose loads of seasoned hardwood logs measure 1m3 and cost £90. A half load is £55. Delivery charges will apply depending on the distance from Marks Hall Estate. You can support the work of the charity by coming to visit our woodlands, find out more information here.
