Work on the clear fell area in the Arboretum has continued throughout the Winter months, with the support of Kingwell Holdings.  A flurry of large machinery moved all stumps and brash up to a central position in preparation for chipping.

An impressive machine named the Roto Chopper, which is pictured above and is one of only three in the country, was brought to Marks Hall.  This was used to process all stumps and brash into woodchip.  The woodchip will now be used as biomass by local electricity stations to provide power.

We are excited to announce that this area of clear fell within the Arboretum is destined to become part of the Asia geographic zone.  Over the next few months, the staff and volunteer team will be cultivating and picking up the remaining arisings as the weather allows.
