Join specialist guest speaker Professor James Raven FBA, Trustee Emeritus of Markshall Estate, Fellow of Magdalene College, University of Cambridge, and the great great grandson of William Raven (1817 – 1911) for one night only as he takes you on a historical journey through 150 years of social history surrounding Markshall Estate.
Starting with his great great grandfather William Raven, a gardener at Marks Hall who left in the 1840s to join the police force, Professor Raven will explore the history of the local community and the family links to the Estate during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Generations of families worked at and called the Estate home. Professor Raven will discuss themes of social mobility amongst the local Coggeshall and area labourers, the interesting demography of the time period, and will touch upon the varied roles of women at the time.
Refreshments including a glass of wine on arrival and homemade traybake are included in the ticket price.
